COMPOSITING SUPERVISOR | CG tree & vine integration, wound embellishments, wing comp look dev
I was fortunate enough to get to work on “The Shade” during my time at Fancy House of Visual Effects, and it had some really fun conceptual sequences that we were able to bring to life. The first, was a series of shots where an actor was “becoming” a part of a tree. While there was a practical tree filmed with the actor inside - during RnD we made the decision to ultimately do a full CG replacement of the tree, to allow for more control with the vines growing out of the hole and connecting to the actors jawline/neck area. Making this connection feel natural and authentic, as well as matching the motion of the vines to the movement of the actors head was definitely the biggest challenge for this sequence. The other section we worked on was the final full reveal of the antagonist character which involved a good amount of costume embellishment and cleanup, and a large CG wing reveal. Huge props to our head of CG, Tim Sepulvida for running through countless versions of the wings to bring them to such an awesome final look.
